The Mathematics Education Major

 

At Saint Vincent College, the Mathematics Education Major earns a degree in mathematics with a minor in education.  For the major in mathe-matics, students are required to take four credits each of physics and chemistry, three credits of logic, three credits of ethics, three credits of fine arts, three credits of intermediate writing, three credits in literature, and the following courses in mathematics: Calculus I, II , III, Ordinary and Partial Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Abstract Algebra I, Real Analysis I, Probability and Statistics, and Euclidean and Non-Euclidean Geometries.

In addition the following education courses are required: Foundations of Education, Strategies and Techniques of Instruction, Secondary Reading Instruction, Teaching in the Content Area, three credits in field experience, Professional Seminar, and Student Teaching Internship.
