Why Choose Religious Studies?

The contemporary age is witnessing an enormous global interest in the academic study of religion. Many people are surprised to learn that it can also lead to wonderful career opportunities. For all students, Saint Vincent College considers the study of religion to be an essential part of one’s general education. In contributing to the achievement of the educational mission, the Religious Studies Department adopts the ecumenical approach of the Second Vatican Council:

  1. We affirm a common humanity whose ultimate source and ultimate destiny is God
  2. We affirm the universal human quest for ultimate truth and goodness as manifested in all religious traditions
  3. We affirm as our primary objective the study of the Judeo- Christian tradition from the perspective of Catholic theology in the established Benedictine tradition of education.

The Department of Religious Studies offers two majors which lead to a Bachelor of Arts degree:

Catholic Theology
Religious Education
A Minor in Religious Studies is also offered by the department.
