| Welcome
to the music program of the Saint Vincent College Department of
Fine Arts. We are delighted you may be pursuing your musical interests
at Saint Vincent and look forward to working with you to develop
your abilities.
FACILITIES
The music offices and classrooms are located on the third floor
of Kennedy Hall.
Recitals are
held in the Science Center Amphitheatre, as are the performances
of the Saint Vincent College Concert Series. Large choral concerts
are held in the splendid Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica.
The Saint Vincent
Singers rehearse in the K33 studio on Mondays and Wednesdays from
4 pm to 5 pm. The Saint Vincent Camerata rehearses in the Basilica
Mondays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The SVC Ringers rehearse in the
Basilica Wednesdays from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
LOCKERS
AND PRACTICE ROOMS
Lockers for music and instrument storage are located on the third
floor of Kennedy Hall. Practice rooms, also on the third floor of
Kennedy Hall, are available on a first-come basis with music majors
having priority over non-majors.
GRADING
Grades are determined by class and/or lesson attendance, preparation,
completion of assignments, and exam or jury results. Each instructor
will outline specific course requirements and lesson expectations.
LESSONS
Lessons are scheduled between registered students and the individual
instructor before classes begin. Lessons begin the first week of
class each semester. Faculty members submit their schedules to the
department to avoid duplicate scheduling of the K33 studio. Times
are assigned on a first-come basis. An updated studio schedule is
posted each semester. Lessons may not be audited.

RECITALS
Music majors are required to participate in each department recital.

Solo Recital
Rehearsals: Students may schedule up to three rehearsals of
one hour duration each with the collaborative pianist prior to the
recital. Students desiring additional accompanied rehearsal times
are responsible for payment of the collaborative pianist.
Recital Publicity:
All recital materials (programs, biographical material, photo, etc.)
must be received by the Department at least four weeks prior to
the recital date to arrange for publicity and program printing.
PLEASE NOTE: Although the music staff prepares and submits
publicity for each recital, it is the responsibility of each performer
to help develop an audience by posting flyers supplied by the department,
inviting family members and friends, and so on.
Important:
College policy dictates that ALL publicity materials be released
by each academic department through the College's Public Relations
Office. DO NOT submit information to the media individually,
and DO NOT submit information directly to the Public Relations
Office. All materials must be submitted through the Department.
