-
Evolution - as seen in fossils, living populations, and computer models
-
Plant Biology - especially the biology of plants in response to environmental
stress
Research Interests

Each summer I work with students on long-term ecological studies in forests
and streams:
-
Soil nutrients and small tree growth following gypsy moth arrival in Southwestern
Pennsylvania.
-
Biological responses in streams to mine drainage treatment (This research
is part of a program to restore local watersheds. My students and I collaborate
with environmental studies professors at Saint Vincent College and outside
professionals.)
Other Projects
-
Each summer, as part of the Saint Vincent Teacher Enhancement Institute,
I teach Field Ecology to pre-college teachers and students planning a career
in teaching biology.
